Maxine from the Quikrete company will be showing you how to create your own piece of functional art. Leaf casting a bird bath is an easy way to add some charm to your yard. All supplies will be here for you including the leaves, although if you have a favorite plant or leaf feel free to bring it in!
Discover the lost art of canning. It was something that our grandparents and their parents before them did out of necessity. Cindy from the PennState Extension will be demonstrating how to make the most out of your garden this year. She will show you how to enjoy your bountiful crops all year long, so in the winter you have fresh tasting veggies and fruits.
Celebrate the local flavors of summer with us on JULY 10th. We will be cooking corn and other locally grown veggies on the grill along with samplings of our delicious dip mixes and marinades. You can enjoy your food while tasting Rustic Acres Wine. They will be out here doing wine tasting and selling their locally produced wine. She grows much of her own fruits to go into the wine but what she can't she buys from local farms.
Not only is it better for enviroment to practice sustianable gardening it is easier for you, the homeowener! "Right plant, right place" is a gardening tip that all should follow but so few do. It means read the care tags or ask us and find the correct plant for your needs. For example- Hemlock trees, I can not tell you how many of these trees I see dying or dead in peoples yards. They are a woodland tree they tend to grow in shady places along creeks or rivers, yet poeple plant them in full sun out in the middle of there yards. Therefore they end up wasting water and fertilizers to keep it alive. We realize it can be a tricky task finding the correct plant material, ask us that is why we are here!
Gardening used to be a way of life, a necessity, not very long ago. People used to know and understand where their food came from, because they grew it right outside there back door. I beleive that many people are going back to that, but as always with a twist. Not everyone has an abudance of space for a large vegetable garden, therefore many are turning to container gardening. Also many people are trying to do it sustainably, by not using pesticides or fertilizers. Even more people want to do this but do not know where to start, as always we are here to help!
